As makeup artists, we see all kinds of skin types everyday. Makeup helps to smooth your skin, cover imperfections and even-out your skin tone. However, when it comes to those ‘no makeup’ days, having healthy looking, glowing skin is a totally different ballgame! There are many skincare lines on the market that can help, and our MUA, Eva Akis will be more than happy to recommend some options for your skin type.

However, as the saying goes you are what you eat, which is why we believe it’s so important to eat the foods that make your body feel good on the inside so you can look great on the outside. Vitamins are a crucial part of everyone’s diet to keep the body functioning properly everyday, not to mention they work wonders for our skin, giving it a healthy, natural glow. Here are some of our favourites and what they can do for your skin.
Vitamin E
Vitamin E naturally cures the appearance of rough, dry or scarred skin. Almonds, spinach, sweet potato and avocado are rich in vitamin E and help to keep your skin smooth and supple.
Vitamin A
Vitamin A is an vital agent in the repair of tissue, preventing a dry or flaky appearance. Many moisturisers and lotions contain vitamin A as a way of controlling breakouts and reducing fine lines and wrinkles. Vitamin A can be found in carrots, kale, sweet potato and broccoli.
Vitamin B
B-Complex Vitamins are known to enhance the appearance of hair skin and nails by eliminating molecules that contribute to ageing and disease. B-Complex vitamins have been proven to minimise acne by breaking down toxic oils and promotes faster healing. B-Complex Vitamins are commonly found in fish, cheese, other dairy products and eggs.
Vitamin C
Vitamin C has been called the anti-wrinkle genius. Not only great for getting rid of pesky colds, vitamin C is great for stimulating collagen production. Collagen improves skin texture and minimises wrinkles. An apple a day keeps the dermatologist away, and so does broccoli, peppers, potatoes and citrus fruits.
Vitamin K
Reducing dark circles and bruising, vitamin K helps fade discolouration of the skin and aids wrinkle reduction. Vitamin K is most commonly found in leafy greens and vegetables.
If you’re looking to improve the appearance of your skin, it’s important to begin with your basic vitamins. Avoid processed foods that commonly cause excess, toxic oil production as they clog the skin and cause it to look dull, discoloured and unhealthy in complexion.
